  12.            Reassignment of Experimental MIBs to Standard MIBs

  16.    This RFC specifies an IAB standards track protocol for the Internet
  17.    community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements.
  18.    Please refer to the current edition of the "IAB Official Protocol
  19.    Standards" for the standardization state and status of this protocol.
  20.    Distribution of this memo is unlimited.

  22. Statement
  23.  
  24.    In the past, MIBs have been assigned arcs in the experimental MIB
  25.    namespace early in their development and then were not assigned arcs
  26.    in the standard MIB namespace until they reached Full Standard
  27.    status.  This practice required vendors to revise their
  28.    implementations when a MIB went from Draft to Full Standard status,
  29.    even though there was probably no substantive technical change in the
  30.    definitions.  This practice could also engender operational problems
  31.    in the field at an undesirably late stage of the standardization
  32.    process.  It was also observed that this practice could discourage
  33.    implementation until the Full Standard stage and that this, too,
  34.    would be undesirable.  So, a preferable practice is to assign arcs in
  35.    the standard MIB namespace at the earliest phase of standardization
  36.    and to preserve these assignments as the standard progresses.
